You know them. They are that Fundamentalist Patriarchal Protestant Evangelical Christian family with like 20 kids and their own reality show? One of the boys just got caught messing around or something, I didn't follow it.
Lots of folks have pretty firm opinions about them, both good and bad. Whats yours?

Is that the one that preach at dead soldiers funerals and bash homosexuality? Nothing good can come of that, if thats not what you are referring too than I say leave religion alone if they aren't hurting anyone. Problem is preaching at dead soldiers funerals and bashing homosexuality is hurting someone. Also see my other post in the other forum, I edited my post and it has something you might want to see.

No, that's Westboro Baptist Church. Everybody hates them. The Duggars are more of a home church type group. They do church at home or with friends in their homes. I'm pretty sure they dislike gay people but they don't say much about it. They are part of the Quiverfull Movement, or Christian Patriarchy as some groups call themselves. There is a pretty funny online parody forum for Westboro Baptist Church. It's called Landover Baptist Church. It's hard to tell at first that it's parody, but keep reading and you will see. They also parody a site called Rapture Ready where there is just some of the nuttiest stuff I ever heard and so much concern over piddly things it's unreal. But I'm sure Landover is a parody site because I used to post on it. It was fun. I'll go check out your other thread now.

I think reality TV, in general (not the competition kind, but the kind in which a person's "private life" is televised), is disgusting, especially when kids are involved. They do not have a choice to be exploited or have their personal information available for public consumption. Duggars, honey boo boo, teen mom, all those things are vile, IMHO. I don't necessarily have an opinion about the people themselves because I am sure the "reality' of their lives is highly edited, other than to pass judgment on any parent who thinks it is permissible to pimp their kids' privacy out for money. Disgusting.

I think Jim Bob has a pregnancy fetish, and he uses religion to assuage the guilt/embarrassment he feels about it.

They are creepy, but I did enjoy the shots of the family closet and the cafeteria style family dinner with the pitchers of drinks arranged regularly down the table.

I don't know them personally, but I don't like the fact that it seemed like they hid what Josh Duggar did to his sisters. It's one thing to forgive and forget, but it makes me wonder if it was ever truly dealt with. Molestation is a sensitive topic for me because I was molested myself, so I may not be a very good judge of this.
I also don't know all their Christianity-related beliefs, so I'm not sure if I agree with them on that or not. I'm a Christian, but I don't like the idea of bashing homosexuals. While it is considered immoral in the Bible, I'm not the kind of person to treat homosexuals like dirt. They're people that need Jesus and sin just like the rest of us.

They are soooo creepy. The first time I saw that family, I thought there was some kind of incest going on. I thought it was Jim Bob molesting his daughters, not one of the brothers, and TBH I'm still not convinced Jim Bob is harmless. Just ew. From their family dynamic, to what they say, to their reality TV show... there outta be a law.

IIRC their father brushed off overpopulation by saying that the population of the whole world could fit into a single state.
While true, it ignores the fact that the population has a "footprint" of resource usage and waste production which can affect the planet.

I think everybody has a right to have as many kids as they want to if they can afford them. They are entirely self sufficient and don't get any welfare etc. I know people have said I have a big family before because I have four kids, which is a big family in today's world I suppose. It's even more unusual in my kids circle of friends because they all four have the same parents and their parents are still married. I don't think we are ruining the planet as much as people say. After all, if people aren't on it then what good is it?

The family's matriarch had done robocalls to fight marriage equality in their state, while Josh had been a spokesman for Focus On The Family, which the Southern Poverty Law Center calls a hate group for their rampant homophobic propaganda.

First, you're thinking of the late Rev. Fred Phelps, of the Westboro Baptist Church. Second, I have no use for most reality show on any of the Discovery Networks, save for Mythbusters (supposedly one of the hosts is on the spectrum), the Crocodile Hunter (Steve Irwin supposedly was ADHD), Breed All About It and Dogs 101. Third, what happens in the Duggar clan is none of my business.
