Unfortunately, the vetting process stops after they have graduated training. I believe a lot of these types of incidents could be avoided if officers that deal directly with the public are required to undergo mandatory psych evaluations at very least quarterly to check for things such as narcissism and PTSD.

The only thing that I find reassuring about the murder of this kid is that it doesn't appear to have been because he was autistic. (Or did I miss part of the story?) In other words he wasn't singled out. Those cops will probably get what they have coming to them, at least one can hope.

What most of you people fail to realize is that the boys and girls in blue have no idea what they are getting into when the get a call, so they have to be prepared for anything. One of my current housemates is a PA State Trooper, just recently graduated from the State Police Academy. He's also an ex-Marine. One of my other housemates told him I'm on the spectrum, especially after all the abuse I was taking from a third housemate, who recently moved, much to everyone's relief. He's been keeping an eye on me, considering all the abuse I was taking, and he's getting a valuable lesson up close and personal on dealing with a high functioning autistic. He hasn't dealt with low functioning autistics... yet. Since he works some really screwball hours, I haven't said anything about my niece and nephew, who are low functioning and non-verbal. Do I think the police need more sensitivity training, for those of us that are neurodiverse? You bet yer sweet bippy they do! Are there jackasses on the force that don't give a damn? Yep, but they are mostly in the minority.
Unfortunately, society hasn't learned much since the 1960's. Disraeli was right: those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it!
