Right. So we need to think of things to talk about that will engender interest. Most people are not really interested in talking about what would make the site better, apparently.
My problem is, I do not know how to start a meaningful conversation with a group of strangers. I am trying to think of a thread to start, and I can't.

This may be a crazy idea, here it goes anyway. Why not discuss what interests you? Whether it's anime, drawing, the bird that sang next to your window, etc. Others may be interested, they may not, won't know until it is put out there.
Meaningful is subjective and always will be, worry less about whether something is meaningful to others and more about what it means to you. If you focus on what it means to you, it will be meaningful.

There is a vacancy because I'm quitting.

Hey, interested observer ... all the things you mention can be true and the site can still fail. Many of those things can be missing, and the site take off, just because. Serendipity plays a part. Ever hear of "going viral?" (Of course you have.) If that was anything that could be reliably replicated, we'd have far more Youtube millionaires.

I think part of the problem with this site is OOM's absence for the past two days. Some new members have joined, some suggestions have been made, requests for features have been made too and there has been no response. In this day and age society is geared towards instant gratification, people don't like to wait, they get bored easily. Maybe OOM was looking for instant gratification too. She didn’t get it, so she is out of here. Anyways, I don’t get it either. They were SPAMing this all over the place, then two days later the place looks abandoned. Kind of like being invited to a party, and then the host just disappears. Will the last one out, please turn out the lights. I wasn't here because I had some things happen and couldn't get online at the time. I'll go into the situation in a post in the members only area, but some pretty serious stuff happened. I wasn't looking for any kind of "instant gratification", and I wasn't aware that starting a forum meant that my presence was required every day, although at first I should certainly be here as often as possible to welcome new members and post on threads to keep conversations going. However, sometimes things happen and I'm not online. When I'm not online, it's because something has come up. If somebody needs me, you can ask AuntBlabby or whatever his user name is here, and he can reach me. He's on my FB and also has my phone number. We talk almost every day either on the phone or on FB. So, I can be reached in an emergency. The thing that happened was pretty serious, and I also had a serious problem with my purebred husky. I'll explain in the other forum. Instant gratification just isnt my thing and never really has been.
