People self-undiagnose stuff like borderline personality disorder all the time. It seems to be accepted and even encouraged on WP. If I say even one thing about self-undiagnosing autism people go crazy. They tell me that autism is a spectrum, it presents in many ways, I'm masking things or in denial. They never consider that autism could ever be an incorrect diagnosis. At the moment I don't really care if I'm truly autistic or not. Now that I'm an adult I can choose not to mention autism. I'm just annoyed that everyone seems to worship autism diagnoses and question others. I think all labels should be questioned including autism.

Do you think that you'd benefit from getting re-tested professionally for autism? It could put your mind at rest for if you are or aren't (and the reasons will be in the report following), right?

I think it is fine to question one's autism diagnosis, as it is fine to question other diagnoses. People question diagnoses all the time, and often dismiss them as misdiagnoses. Except autism. Most people try to convince you that you have autism if you question that you have autism. Questioning autism is as legit as questioning borderline or anything else. In some cases, people questioning their diagnoses are correct, and they don't have autism. In other cases, they are not realizing that many of their traits are autistic traits, and they do have autism. It is hard for internetz people to tell either way.

I don't think it would benifit me at the moment. I'm saving up for a car and other independent living expenses. I also want to keep my diagnosis for emergencies.

Ultimately, the goal is to become comfortable (and accepting) of who you are.

Odd that seems kinda hard to self undiagnose unless you are a professional and realized you are misdiagnosed but that's just me.
