It's about four weeks away now. We usually do the same exact thing every year. It's good food but its a ton of it. We go entirely overboard. It takes three days of straight cooking and we have about 18 to 20 dishes plus 5 or 6 desserts. And right in the middle of all that good home cooked scratch food is a can shaped thing of jelly type cranberry sauce sliced into circles. One if these things is not like the others....
If I hadn't have gotten the mail when I did then I wouldn't have seen we had the new November Southern Living. Anybody else got the mail they would have just put it with the others in the front bathroom. I don't use that bathroom so I have no idea why I keep them where they do me no good. I wouldn't have seen it at all and would have missed the make ahead Thanksgiving dinner. You do 3 or 4 items each weekend then freeze them. Not all of every dish but most. You follow their plan and on Thanksgiving day all you do is reheat, add some things to other things, and make the crock pot potatoes. I decided I'm doing it this year. It's ten dishes. Two desserts. Maybe ten including. I don't remember.
But tomorrow I'm going to the store and get this week's stuff and make and freeze it. Plus put money on my card and pay the insurance. I almost forgot. I'll get out the magazine and type up the dishes. I told Abby Normal and he said they sounded good. You wouldn't think reheating frozen stuff would be good but its Southern Living. They are the gold standard for food, decorating, the yard, and travel. They are really all you need. It's South Specific. We like that down here. We enjoy thinking we are special cause we are Southern. It's even got a few pages of military schools and boot camps for bad kids if you have them. They come to your house and two big wrestler types take your kid with them. Sometimes it works. I know nothing about them, I've only threatened my boys with it. Never was really gonna send them. Even if I wanted to I couldn't afford it. But that's Southern Living. And I'm trusting them with my Thanksgiving this year. They even show you step by step how to make your table look like the one in the picture. I'm doing that too.
Who all is in the US and celebrates it. What are y'all doing and serving? If you don't live here then do you ever celebrate holidays from other countries and cultures? If so would you do Thanksgiving? Not sure it would be the same without the Macy's Day Parade and bowl games. But I dont watch either so you should still have fun I promise. Is Thanksgiving offensive to folks in England like the 4th is? Kinda like a geography version of celebrating the break up day, the moving out day, the day you got the restraining order etc. Not pleasant to think about for one of the parties. Or does England really care that some people left and they didn't get to keep the US? I wouldn't think so. I'm trying to show sensitivity. I didn't just ASSUME all y'all celebrated it or y'all really wanted to but couldn't for some reason. Are there even turkeys in England? I know there wasn't corn.
I need to get excited over all this shit again this year. I did last year. I'm not going into that here, I'm saving it to use in the brand spanking new emotional stuff forum. That's what we call the Haven at our house
OMG NOW I get a creative urge. I should have called the forum Our House instead of Right Planet. I was tired OK lol I could change it but I won't. Too much trouble.
Oh and I got a couple techy questions to ask all y'all. Please go by and answer them if you don't mind
And I have a funny story from a few months back that I'll post too. It's just funny and there is no point to it. I made a fool of myself but my friend and I figured how to spin it to fix it. We did. I'll tell you here in a minute.
Well now I'm rambling. I'll stop.
So, Thanksgiving. Huh? Go ahead. I wanna know.
