You're right I didn't but I did figure out you weren't lying all by myself. ... Plus if people weren't able to recognize autism then why is there a name for it. I personally am unable to recognize autism in others, either in their writings or in their recognizable visible behaviors. I still do not understand how someone who lacks social intuition can determine that others lack it as well. But that's just me. Perhaps because it’s not something I pay attention to.

I was very convinced that you had autism when you were going through that obsessive doubt period.

OKAY OKAY OKAY. I see people ganging up on btbnnyr when they really should be ganging up on me. I'm the one who had the audacity to post the OP. io, you may be a moderator but you're almost as new a moderator as this site is. I find your tone to be preachy, arrogant and condescending: "go off and think about this for a few days" WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

Well barring any blood tests the best way we have is through observations which is why the criteria for diagnostic purposes is behavior based. Consistency, is key, people aren't able to put on an act for very long even online so I watch over time. How much time depends on how consistent they are.
As far as the people you don't understand who complain over little things, they are consistent too. Some have autism and are depressed, because they feel like no one understands them and some have been put down and abused because of it. Some are just suffering from mental health issues only. Either way they are suffering. Think of it as a never ending meltdown they are having. Where they can't think clearly and they have trouble making logical rational choices. Making comments about them only makes it worse for them and doesn't help them at all. Nor does being overly supportive, the support they need is encouragement to seek out a mental health professional. In reality, by making comments about them whether in support or disgust reinforces their behavior and makes things worse.
That is why it is best in these types of situations to just ignore it. Find something else to talk about and don't respond if you don't know how to encourage them to see a mental health professional or if you don't want to be bothered. They will eventually tire if no one is paying attention and go else where to get the attention.
Again not saying you can't complain about it, I am saying that when you do realize you are more than likely making the problem worse for everyone involved and I don't believe you are that type of person who would want to see them get worse.

Well in his defense I believe we, myself and him, were posting opinions as members and not moderators. We aren't really here to condescend or or censor, we are here to help OOM with the technical side of the site and Io has contributed a lot in this area. See here is a common problem with text communication, that quote can be very condescending or meant more as a "lets take a stop back" kinda way, but the problem lies in the fact that text communication removes body language, tone, etc. Stuff autistic people struggle with anyway so lets all take a breather and approach this topic tomorrow shall we?

I was very convinced that you had autism when you were going through that obsessive doubt period. Well, I certainly am glad that that period of my life (when I had obsessive doubt about my diagnosis) is over. Sadly, possessiveness, general skepticism and worry have plagued me since I was young. It really is a dual-edged sword. Those same thoughts and tendencies are quite useful in my line of work (software systems development). As I obsessively analyze every aspect of everything to ensure that the system I am creating is perfect (or as close as possible).

HOW DARE YOU. WHAT A TWIT. Well, this thread has degenerated quickly. I now see that beaarthur has been deleted. Generally, I don't think it's a good idea for moderators to participate in threads. There role is to ensure that this stuff doesn't happen.

WHAT A TWIT. Goodbye, While it appears you have you have deleted your own profile, I have banned you, please don't come back. You have violated the only incredibly simple rule this site has and was not respectful. Christ, this is madness people, OOM created this forum so we can express our opinions safely and yes mods can participate in that as most forums are that way. I am locking this thread temporary to let people cool down. I am not mad at anyone and I am not trying to excessively moderate but we need to all calm down for a minute. I need to talk to OOM about the future of this thread.
